Radio Gaga User Manual
The other stuff
Preferences
There are a number of settings you can use to adjust the way Radio Gaga works. You access these settings by selecting Preferences... under the Radio Gaga menu, or by pressing Command-comma.
You'll see a window with three categories of preferences: General, Software Update, and Advanced.
General preferences are:
- "Preferred radio quality": When a radio station broadcasts in several audio resolutions, Radio Gaga grabs the "best" (but most bandwidth-sucking) stream by default. This setting lets you force Radio Gaga to hold back and select a lower-bandwidth option when one is available, saving you some Internet throughput for other uses.
- "Display floating notifications": You'll see little notification windows whenever Radio Gaga does certain things, such as start a new recording or change songs.
- "Keep the mini-controller on top of all other windows": This keeps the Radio Gaga mini-controller visible at all times; uncheck this if you only want to see it when Radio Gaga is the frontmost application.
- "Show current track as my iChat status message" only comes into play when you're online with Apple's chat program, iChat. With this checked, your friends will see what you're listening to instead of just the boring "Available" message.
- "Display genres list as" changes the shape of genre badges from round ("Badges") to square ("Frames"). It's a little thing, but hey - that's what counts in life, right?
Gaga Update preferences are:
The Gaga Update preference has only one section: a checkbox that tells Radio Gaga to check for updates to the program occasionally. (We recommend you keep this checked so you can take advantage of all the new features as soon as we release them.) Of course, you can also check for updates at any time by clicking Check Now.
Finally, the Advanced preferences are:
- "Radio Gaga Music folder location" lets you choose where recorded tracks are actually located on your hard drive. Clicking on any part of the path - "Radio Gaga", for example - opens that folder.
- "Remove tracks after exporting to iTunes" ensures that you don't end up with lots of space-wasting duplicates of tracks on your hard drive.
- "Prevent Radio Gaga from filling your disk", along with the "Stop recording..." setting beneath it, lets you choose how much space you want to leave on your hard drive for other things besides recordings.
Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoy Radio Gaga.
